Martha rost, worldwide marketing manager for HP’s dc5 series, says the new dc5850 is designed to help businesses—large and small—save time and money.
The AMD 780V chipset’s standard features surpass typical mainstream desktops. Dual-monitor capability is standard, as is support for Microsoft’s DirectX10 graphics for sharper visual detail. RAID 0/1 data mirroring is standard with two hard drives, while HP Backup and Recovery Manager software helps protect data from corruption or incompatibilities. The chipset includes HyperTransport* 3.0 technology, AMD’s high-speed interconnect that helps boost data and overall performance.

SeCuri Ty, ManageMen T STandardS AMD and HP have collaborated to support open security standards, such as Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2 from the Trusted Computing Group. Implemented via an embedded security chip integrated with a Broadcom network interface card, TPM 1.2 helps protect data, user access and e-mail via enhanced encryption and more to re-
duce the risk of data loss. Physical security is assured by the HP Desktop Security kit.
For client management, HP supplies value-added software for centralized hardware control, including HP Client Automation, Starter edition, and HP Client Manager from Symantec. Altiris’ management solution supports the Alert Standard Format 2.0 for out-of-band management. Other management software includes HP’s SoftPaq Download Manager and HP System Software Manager.
HP’s commitment to open management is evident from the dc5850’s support for the emerging Desktop and Mobile Architecture for System Hardware (DASH) standard, a hardware-based technology for client management. DASH can help lower service and maintenance costs by providing remote client management, both in-band and out-of-band. Initial dc5850 systems are “ DASH-ready,” able to be retrofitted to the standard, when the hardware becomes available.
greener CoMPu Ting
On the green computing front, HP and AMD have collaborated to create a system with the environment in mind, without compromising performance.
AMD’s Business Class platform features AMD Cool’n’Quiet™ technology, which can help reduce energy consumption and fan noise at low computing loads, and the dc5850 is available with 45-watt single-core and dual-core AMD Athlon processors. The dc5850 is ENERGY STAR qualified, and the overall system is EPEAT Gold registered, a testament to HP’s corporate-wide commitment to reducing energy consumption.
The dc5850 Business PC series offers the best in collaborative technology from HP and AMD, along with a premium value without the premium price. n
